When we stayed in Scotland we decided to try an apartment instead of a hotel room for a change – we were not disappointed. For practically the same price as a hotel (in actual fact it was cheaper), we stayed in a Stay City Apartment in the centre of Edinburgh.
This spacious apartment was perfect for the two of us. Basically open plan, the apartment had a fully functioning kitchen, with dishwasher, cooker, oven, microwave, fridge and freezer – as well as a dining area, lounging area and bedroom. It was perfect.
You could pull a divider across the room to section the bedroom off if you wanted to but we didn’t bother as there was no real need. It was super clean, really nicely laid out and we were on the ground floor so when you opened the curtains you had a lot of lovely natural light flowing in.
We had a few issues with our TV when we arrived – we suspect that the people who stayed there before us were German as everything was in German! It took us a while and with the use of Google Translate, Adam managed to switch it all back to English for us! Phew!
We were provided with dish cloths and washing up liquid as well as instructions for how to work things which was pretty helpful. We had a free wifi code, super secure parking underneath the building and all the cutlery you would need.
The bathroom was off a corridor and was spacious. Included a large power shower which was incredible and plenty of storage above the sink which helped us keep tidy! Usually in a hotel room we are falling over each other so this was lovely.
There were cute themed labels on all the doors, just in case you got lost too! 😉
The fridge was lovely and cold when we arrived and super clean, ready for us to fill with all the goodies we would buy. There were detailed directions to the local Tesco Express which we appreciated too.
Of course we enjoyed exploring all the various cupboards, nooks and crannies. We found the boiler, hair dryer, ironing board etc – all just really convenient and like a home from home. We didn’t plan to stay in the apartment for too long as we were off to explore Edinburgh, but we arrived there late following a full day of driving, so to arrive to this was lovely.
When we booked in the reception area couldn’t have been more helpful. Super lovely people. They helped us get our bearings pretty quickly. The reception desk is manned for 24 hours too which is great just in case you have an emergency!
We were in an apartment block that was also filled with German students – we knew they were a little noisy as we heard them when we were leaving or entering the property – however, when inside our apartment we couldn’t hear anything. It was bliss.
We could check in from 3pm and check out was 11am which was brilliant too.
The one thing I appreciated most during our stay was the central heating. Never have I been more grateful for it after coming home from being out in the freezing cold and snow all day. It was bliss. The perfect temperature and super easy to control too.
Whilst we were there it was Adam’s birthday too. I decorated the room whilst he was in the shower on the morning of his birthday and it looked so cute. The lovely people at the apartments also left him a bottle of wine and some chocolates when we were out during the day which was a lovely touch.
